Our wooden toys are constructed of the finest quality Vermont hard rock maple accented with occasional contrasting tones of Pennsylvania cherry, birch, oak, and mahogany. They are finished with our own special nontoxic blend of hard-drying stains and sealers which protect and enhance the natural beauty of the woodgrain. In the past, our toys have been displayed both in toy shops and in galleries, and recommended by respected books and periodicals which cite our creations' furniture-quality craftsmanship and durability within the playspace. Our toys have been acclaimed both in museum exhibitions and art festivals for their originality and integrity of design. Many of our toys are designed to be ridden and all are created to endure the rugged play of several generations of children.

Vermont Wooden Toys in 2011 celebrates 38 years of toymaking, beginning in 1973 as "R. Voake, Toymaker", & now over the last 15 years or so, adopting a perhaps more descriptive name as "Vermont Wooden Toys". We enjoy the continued endorsement of our efforts from repeat patrons, as well as recommendation from teaching and childraising professionals such as the noted child psychologist and author, Dr. Fitzhugh Dodson. As a teenager he traveled to birthday parties to perform his one-man puppet show. In college he studied acting at Goodman School of Drama and landed speaking roles in movies like Risky Business, Uncle Buck, Under the Biltmore Clock and The Roommate. He also starred in a pretty campy America's Most Wanted episode. He acted for many years.

But with his first child on the way, Wayne knew he had to get a real job, so he thought long and hard about his life-long desire to play, entertain and have fun. He began work on his biggest show yet… And in 1995 his first child and The Toy Shop were born!
