one time the Alden Country Inn was one of
thirteen inns surrounding the Lyme common.
Today, as in yesteryear, the historic Alden
Country Inn is a respite for folks weary of
the frenzied lifestyle of this century, and
who want to step back to a simpler time and
enjoy the hospitality of a New England bed
and breakfast.
Dine in the relaxed atmosphere of the Stagecoach
Tavern or Washburn Pub or in a more elegant
setting in our 1809 Dining Room. Check our

Accommodations in our 15 restored and newly-decorated
guest rooms provide all the ammenities you
expect yet reflect the ambiance of a bygone

The
Wayside Inn
This historic inn started as a four-room homestead,
built by the nephew of Franklin Pierce, 14th
president of the United States. Today, The
Wayside Inn welcomes guests seeking a true
New England experience in any season. Romantic
Getaways, Family and Friend Gatherings, a
Country Wedding—a Memorable Vacation. The
original main inn is partnered with its modern
annex, ideal for young families (and pet-friendly),
each room with a balcony and lovely view.
All accommodations are spacious and truly
comfortable, and one room in the inn is wheelchair
accessible.
Guests enjoy seasonal outdoor pleasures, with
a riverside sandy beach and the carefully
tended flower garden. The inn’s horseshoe
pit and bocce court are favorites! Nearby
hiking trails change dramatically with the
seasons, and winter offers snowshoeing and
cross-country skiing right from our door.

country-store shoppers—our guests know all
their passions will be satisfied. We are so
close to major ski areas, and skiers of all
